At the age of 15, most students are trying their best to get into a good high school. But a Canadian teenager named William Gadoury is not interested in this kind of thing. Instead, he has great interest in Mayan (瑪雅人的) culture. Recently, the 15-year-old boy said that he had discovered a lost Mayan city in Mexico.

William lives in Quebec, Canada. He showed great interest in Mayan culture at a young age. Many boys usually like spending their free time playing computer games, but William likes

learning about Mayan culture. To his surprise, he noticed while people from other cultures liked building their cities near the water, Mayan liked building their cities in forests, on mountains or in other places far away from the water. Why did they make such choices? William wanted to find out the answer. After studying the locations of 117 known Mayan cities, he found out the connection between the cities and the stars: it seems the Mayans built their cities to match different constellations (星座).

William compared the known Mayan cities with 23 constellations. While studying the final

constellation, he saw three stars but only two known cities. So he guessed there might be another city that people hadn’t found yet. With the help of the Canadian Space Agency and Google Maps, he finally found a place that he believes is the lost Mayan city. However, not all scientists think so. I’ve never met anyone who enjoys jeans shopping! Have you? Whether you’re a boy or a girl, short or tall, big or small, looking for jeans that both fit well and are comfortable can be a hard job. Before you go into the changing room, you have to look through a table of 10 styles in 20 different colors.

So how can you find jeans that will work everywhere, from the classroom to the cinema?

Below, you’ll find a few tips on finding the perfect-fitting pair of jeans.

A pair of straight leg jeans is the most classic style. At school, a straight leg pair of jeans and a sport coat are the perfect match. On the weekends, try relaxing with a pair of sneakers (布鞋). At the store, let the tag guide you. Look for tags with “slim” or “straight”. Avoid those with “relaxed”. Although the latter (后者) is comfortable, it will be too casual to wear.

With a good-fitting pair of jeans, you probably won’t be able to play basketball, but you should still be able to sit, stand and walk comfortably. At the store, sit down in the changing room to make sure the jeans you choose aren’t too tight (緊的). Cross your legs. Bend (彎腰) over to pick something up off the floor. If you can do these moves without splitting (撐裂) your pants, you can think about buying them.

If you only buy one new pair of jeans this year, make them dark blue. This color goes well with other clothes. Jeans in this color will look good with a shirt at school. On the weekend, they will match a T-shirt and sneakers perfectly.

      61. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1?

The first time I saw Kai, she was sitting in my front yard hugging (擁抱) my dog. 66 I liked her immediately but didn’t know then what a great influence she would have on my life.

Soon we were not only neighbors but also good friends. 67 Whenever my family and I visited her, she would welcome us in with a smile, sit us down, and cut us pieces of cake. She was always helping others, giving others and encouraging others. No matter who you were, you always left her house feeling a little better and a little happier.

All of the time I was getting to know Kai, though, she was dying. She had big health problems. She owned her own cleaning business, but after a while she was too weak to work there any more. During the last months of her life, she had to spend most of her time in bed. 68 On the day she passed away, I walked back to my house, closed the door and cried. She had touched me deeply in a very short time. I had become a better person because of her and I knew others had as well.

Desiderius Erasmus once wrote: “Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself.”

69 She gave others her light. She shared her love. And this world was so much brighter because she was in it.

Kai taught me something too: 70 It is never too late to love and touch others with your kindness.
